“Don't shrink. Don't puff.

Stand your sacred ground.”

- Brené Brown

Queer / Gay Therapist and Psychologist Jeff Paulez

Therapy is a real relationship between real people.

We co-create the space together. I practice from a trauma-informed and Interpersonal approach while integrating Emotion-Focused Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills. What this means is I prioritize our unique relationship, your experiences, and what type of support and feedback is most helpful for you. I share what I know about neurobiology, trauma healing, and skills for navigating emotions and relationships while we explore your story and what you need.

All of your parts are welcome. Body, heart, mind, and spirit. I will tell you what I am thinking and answer questions you have. I am a lifelong learner intent on being a self-aware, culturally humble, and intersectional social justice advocate.

(Re)discover your true north.

(Re)claim your strengths.

(Re)connect and deepen your relationships.

(Re)author your own story.

(Re)gain your sense of purpose and worth.

You are unique and no one else has ever lived your life. I want you to live your life authentically, which often means noticing and working through others’ expectations for you. Family, friends, and society impact us for better and worse. I have skills and training to support you as you heal and grow, and we will collaborate as you take the lead in deciding the areas of your life we explore together.

You are the expert on you.

We’ll build on your strengths.

There is no perfect checklist, resource, or strategy that will solve all of our problems. If I ever find something like this, trust me, I’ll share it with you.

Being human is messy and complicated. You have made it through a lot already. We’ll explore strategies that lean into your strengths so you can find ways that work for you to move through the hardest things that come your way. We’ll try things that may be new to you and you can take what works and make it your own.

“History is not the past, it is the present. We carry our history with us. We are our history.”

— James Baldwin

Collective Healing.

Many of my most meaningful healing experiences happened in relationships. Often these occurred when I was initially uncomfortable and needed encouragement to be fully seen and trust the support being offered. As a member of the queer / LGBTQ+ community, I live with both joy and celebration that come with community as well with the realities of oppression, discrimination, and our interconnected liberation.

As Fannie Lou Hamer said, “Nobody’s free until everybody’s free.”

Our safe connections and belonging with others are crucial aspects of surviving and thriving.

Social Justice & Liberation.

All of our identities—including race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, size, ability, age, and other factors—impact how we see ourselves and how others treat us. The realities of racism, sexism, heterosexism, and all other oppressions must be acknowledged and fought against. Anti-oppression, anti-racism, and de-colonization are repeated actions and not one time acknowledgments. I am continually exploring the intersections between my own privileged and marginalized identities to remain personally grounded and help others explore their own experiences.

I prioritize exploring how identities influence experiences and offer space to do so in therapy, to whatever extent you wish. I also value resistance strategies that can help us overcome oppressive realities and advocate for a more just and loving world for each of us.

Evidenced-Based Practices.

In addition to my lived experiences, I have specific training in several evidenced-based approaches. I describe Interpersonal Process Therapy (IPT) as my core approach and I integrate my training in all of these approaches intentionally in ways that meet your needs and support you in meeting your goals.
